Runic Icons

24 Runic letters contained within the Elder Fuþark alphabet, the most common form of the Runic alphabet. Each icon has a transparent background and includes two variations, regular and a reflected version.

Ill post these as shapes for Photoshop as well, just in case you wanted to use these Runes on your own images, of course I would appreciate a link to the work to see how your using the Runes.

Free for non-commercial use.

Any comments or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Hi! I'd love to use your icons in my forum, for guild ranks.
Unfortunately I can't open these files in any program. Is it possible to get transparent gif files somehow?

Nice work, but strictly speaking they are not viking runes. The elder futhark went out of use around 500 AD in Scandinavia. Well before the viking age.The vikings used various 16-rune futharks.

I recommend [link] for online rune research.

But I'm just being a detail obsessive archaeologist here. :)

I always used to think that it went out of use around the 8th century AD and some of the earliest recorded Viking periods was during the late 7th century AD around northern Europe.

However your right that it was not their main character alphabet, but it was used alot for the Norse religion and gods and heavily influenced the later Viking glyphs.

But it has been some time since I studied in this area :reading:.
When I get time I'll re-release the icons and include the other runic alphabets to make the title a little more accurate.
